Theo of Golden by Clare Allen Levi
This was my IRL book club book and wow. It’s been a while since a book has had such an effect on me. This might go down as my favorite book for the whole year. This is a beautiful, quiet story of an old man who had a huge impact on those around him. The storytelling, the sentence structure, the allegory….all of it was beautifully woven together. I was so moved, I teared up many times while reading and most of all…I want to be just like Theo when I grow up. I feel like this is a book that only the coldest of hearts wouldn’t enjoy and I will be recommending it and gifting it over and over.

The Memory Collectors by Dete Meserve
Four interesting stories that end up weaving together. I liked this but felt like I needed something MORE from it but I’m not sure what that was exactly. Good premise and kept my interest however! Listened on audio and really disliked ONE of the narrators which took the experience down for me just a notch.

Tilt to You by Emma Pattee
Quick listen about a pregnant lady caught in an earthquake in Portland. It definitely kept my interest but found myself frustrated with the main character and the choices that she made. The ending was a little unsatisfying. Had a lot of potential to be a wow but fell slightly short.
Recommend
Too Old for This by Samantha Downing
Cute premise and was well written. I enjoyed the older person serial killer angle but this is still about a serial killer which I feel like is hard to pull off. Kind of still not totally sure how I feel about this one!
Recommend
The Department by Jacqueline Faber
Really surprised by this and very much enjoyed my time in the physical copy of this one. There is a philosophy angle and I liked the two separate POV’s. This is more of a slow burn mystery and not a thriller but it was written very well and I’d be interested in reading future books she writes!

The Accidental Rewrite by Milly Johnson
When will I learn not to listen to books that are modern day British? For some reason I just don’t connect with them. This was boring and nothing was happening so I put it down. Not sure why the cover image here doesn’t have the full title?
Not for me/DNF
For some reason I ended up not tracking two books I read in August - so I will cover those in September!
Guide to my book ratings
Highly Recommend: Personally enjoyed this book and feel like most other people probably would as well
Recommend: I liked it but could see why others would not due to various subject/themes present or storylines that don’t suit a wide audience
Just OK: I didn’t love it or hate it. Might have been poorly written with an interesting premise or vise versa.
Not for me: Really disliked the storyline, found plot holes, badly written or felt pointless to me. Likely a DNF or had to push myself to finish.
